Pastry Chef – Full Time

The Grove Café & Bakery is seeking a talented and motivated Pastry Chef to lead and manage our in-house pastry program. We are a small, chef-driven café in the San Lorenzo Valley focused on scratch baking, organic ingredients, and seasonal and local sourcing.

This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about artisan baking, thrives in a collaborative kitchen, and takes pride in creating beautiful, high-quality pastries every day.

Position Overview

The Pastry Chef will oversee all pastry production and manage a small pastry team. This role is responsible for maintaining consistency, developing new seasonal items, and ensuring the highest standards of quality in our daily pastry offerings.

Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee the daily pastry and baking program
• Supervise and support two pastry assistants
• Maintain consistent product quality and presentation
• Execute daily production of pastries, breads, and baked goods
• Develop new recipes and seasonal menu items
• Maintain organized prep lists and production schedules
• Ensure kitchen cleanliness, food safety, and efficient workflow
• Work collaboratively with the café kitchen team

• Manage inventory and ordering for pastry department 

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional baking or pastry experience required
• Strong attention to detail and consistency
• Ability to manage a small team and lead production efficiently
• Passion for seasonal ingredients and scratch cooking
• Ability to work early morning shifts and maintain a steady production pace

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with artisan bread baking
• Experience with laminated dough and viennoiserie

Schedule

• Full-time position
• Early morning schedule (typically 5:30 AM start)
• Morning-focused hours with some flexibility

Compensation

Starting at $22/hour + tips
• Full-time position with consistent hours
• Opportunity to contribute creatively to the pastry program
